The trail consists of rocky paths, meadows, and river crossings, giving trekkers a variety of terrains to experience. The highlight of today’s trek is Jwara, a beautiful alpine valley filled with wildflowers and waterfalls. This section is often called the “Valley of Flowers” of Himachal Pradesh due to its striking resemblance to the famous Uttarakhand trek. As you gain altitude, the terrain gradually transforms into a rocky landscape. The lush green grasslands of Chika give way to a barren glacial valley as you approach Balu ka Ghera, which means “Heaps of Sand”—a reference to the fine sand deposits left by glacial activity. Your campsite at Balu ka Ghera (11,900 ft) is located in a wide valley, surrounded by towering peaks. The trail begins with a steep ascent over loose rocks and boulders, followed by a gradual incline over snow patches. You will trek through glacial moraines and streams formed by melting snow. As you climb higher, the valley behind you starts fading, and the view of snow-covered peaks like Indrasan and Deo Tibba becomes clearer. After 4-5 hours of continuous ascent, you reach the Hampta Pass (14,100 ft). The top of the pass offers a breathtaking 360-degree view—on one side, you see the lush green Kullu Valley, and on the other, the barren, brown landscapes of Lahaul and Spiti. The descent is steep and tricky, as you will be trekking through snow and loose scree. You will need to be extra cautious while navigating through this section.
