Bali Pass is a challenging high-altitude trek in Uttarakhand, known for ancient Himalayan villages, dense forests, alpine meadows, Ruinsara Valley, high-altitude camps and a spectacular mountain pass crossing.
Bali Pass is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The route connects the Har Ki Dun and Ruinsara Valley region with the Yamunotri side of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Bali Pass is generally rated Difficult. The trek involves long walking days, steep ascents and descents, significant altitude gain and demanding high-altitude terrain. Good physical fitness and previous trekking experience are strongly recommended.
Bali Pass reaches an altitude of approximately 16,200 ft above sea level.
The total trekking distance is approximately 55–65 km, depending on the exact itinerary, campsites and route followed.
The Himalayasgriffon Bali Pass itinerary is planned as a multi-day high-altitude trek, including transportation according to the selected package. The exact duration depends on the itinerary and acclimatisation plan.
The trek generally begins from the Taluka side after reaching Sankri. From there, the trail passes through traditional villages, forests and the Ruinsara Valley before approaching Bali Pass.
Bali Pass is generally not recommended for complete beginners. Previous trekking experience, good stamina and familiarity with high-altitude conditions are strongly recommended.
The preferred seasons for Bali Pass are generally May to June and September to October, depending on snow, weather and trail conditions.
Yes. Snow can be encountered around the higher sections of the trail and near Bali Pass. Snow conditions vary depending on the season, recent snowfall and weather.
Depending on the itinerary, the route can include traditional Himalayan settlements and areas such as Taluka, Gangad, Osla and Seema before continuing towards Ruinsara Valley and Bali Pass.
Ruinsara Valley is one of the major highlights of the Bali Pass Trek. It is known for its remote Himalayan landscape, alpine meadows, surrounding peaks and Ruinsara Tal, making it one of the most scenic sections of the route.
Accommodation generally includes guest house/homestay and camping, depending on the itinerary and operational conditions.
Yes. Meals are provided according to the Himalayasgriffon package and are generally vegetarian, with the exact meal plan shared before departure.
Transportation depends on the selected Himalayasgriffon package. Pickup and drop-off details will be clearly mentioned in the booking itinerary.
Essential items include:
Additional equipment may be required depending on snow and trail conditions.
Yes. Proper trekking shoes with strong grip and ankle support are essential because the route includes steep, rocky, uneven and potentially snowy terrain.
Yes. Selected trekking equipment can be arranged on a rental basis, subject to availability. Pre-booking is recommended.
Yes, when undertaken with proper preparation, acclimatisation and professional trek support. However, Bali Pass is a demanding high-altitude trek, and mountain conditions can change quickly. Trekkers should always follow the trek leader's instructions.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for additional protection. Make sure your policy covers high-altitude trekking activities and emergency medical/evacuation requirements.
Suitability depends on age, fitness, medical condition and previous high-altitude trekking experience. Because Bali Pass is physically demanding and reaches a significant altitude, individual fitness should be carefully assessed before booking.
If heavy snowfall, rain, poor visibility, unsafe trail conditions or other factors make the route unsafe, the trek leader may modify the itinerary, change the route, delay the pass crossing or stop the group from proceeding.
The itinerary is planned for a Bali Pass crossing, but the actual crossing is subject to weather, snow, trail and safety conditions. The fitness and acclimatisation of the group may also affect the decision. Safety always takes priority over completing the crossing.
With Himalayasgriffon, the focus is on a safe, well-organised and authentic high-altitude Himalayan experience, supported by local knowledge, trained trek staff and carefully planned logistics.

It was an amazing trekking experience! The arrangements were perfect, guides were super helpful, and the overall vibe was just awesome. We enjoyed every moment and created unforgettable memories. Highly recommended for every adventure lover!

Points that really worked for me. All home stay we stayed, Wherher it was at Sankari or Osla were very comfortable and great hospitality. Timely food and family like atmosphere in mountains and when you are seating in the tent when it rains outside, the conversations and stories from our Trek leader Suraj were interesting and entertaining. Suraj Rana definitely should be your trek guide. But be prepared for the mountains. As they say Mumbai ka fashion aur pahado ka Mausam kabhi bhi badal sakta hai Thanks Suraj Rana
